<image:title>Brain on the Bayou Blog - With Movement in Mind: How Imagination Strengthens Us - In recent years, researchers in neuroscience and physical therapy have shown the potential of a new type of therapy that could make rehabilitation easier for all, especially older adults. This is motor imagery.</image:title>

<image:title>Brain on the Bayou Blog - With Movement in Mind: How Imagination Strengthens Us - Motor imagery is described as the “conscious access to the content of the intention of a movement” (Jeannerod, 1995). In other words, motor imagery happens when you intentionally imagine or think about moving some part of your body. For instance, closing your eyes and imagining lifting your foot off the ground without actually doing it is an instance of motor imagery. Motor imagery generates neural signals that are too weak to actually cause muscle movement, but are strong enough to make an impact in other ways.</image:title>
